My wife asked yesterday what I was painting and if it had a background story or theme. Oftentimes my art is for art’s sake (though art helps me wash away my troubles, at least for a while), but occasionally there’s something behind it, which I usually don’t realize until I am describing a work to someone, then, “huh, there is more to it that I thought.” Well, she was calling me cranky and that name seemed to fit this piece. I don’t know why. Perhaps it is the gritty feeling to it, but there you have it.
A lot of time went into the background, the negative space, while the blocks of muted colors are more simplistic. Then there’s the pop of bright orange trying to come through.
